Background
The Alexandria Metro Phase 1 (also known as Abu Qir Metro) involves the upgrade and electrification of the existing rail route between Abu Qir station and Misr station in Alexandria City, Egypt. The route is 22 km long with 18 stations.
The project is the first phase of a high-capacity metro system in Alexandria from Abu Qir to Borg Al Arab. A second phase will extend 8 km from Misr station to the Al-Max station including 6 stations, while a third phase will run from Al-Max station to the Alexandria-Marsa Matrouh road over a length of 13.5 km, serving 9 stations.
