Egypt’s National Authority for Tunnels (NAT) has selected RATP Dev to operate the 10th of Ramadan Light Rail linking Cairo with 10th of Ramadan City and the New Administrative Capital.
Under the contract, RATP Dev through its local subsidiary RATP Dev Mobility Cairo will operate and maintain the line for a period of 15 years, renewable for 5 more years.
This becomes RATP Dev’s second contract in Egypt after the Cairo Metro Line 3 contract awarded in September 2020.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Transport Minister Kamel al-Wazir said that the LRT which extends over a length of 74 km is 72% complete. He added that four out of the 22 EMUs for the project have already been manufactured. The trains are being manufactured by CRRC Qingdao Sifang.
Trial operation is scheduled for August 2021, and the first two phases of the project are set to be commissioned in October 2021.
