Cairo Metro Line 3 Phase 4B extension was inaugurated by the Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi at a ceremony held on August 16.
During the ceremony, the President also laid the foundation stone for Adly Mansour interchange station which links the New Administrative Capital with all the Egyptian cities and governorates.
The project involved a 7-km extension of Line 3 from El-Shams Club to Adly Mansour serving six stations at El-Nozha, Hisham Barakat, Qobaa, Omar ibn El Khattab, Hikestep and Adly Mansour. A depot with 31 buildings was built at Adly Mansour.
The Cairo Metro Line 3 Phase 4B which operates Hyundai Rotem trains is expected to carry an estimated 1.5 million passengers per day.
A joint venture (JV) of Orascom Construction and Arab Contractors was the main contractor in the €590m extension project awarded by the National Authority for Tunnels (NAT) in June 2016. In November 2017, the JV subcontracted Alstom to install its Urbalis CBTC signalling system on the route. A centralized Operation Control Centre, telephone, radio and ticketing solutions including 80 swing gates and 21 Ticket Vending Machines were installed by Thales.
