Background
The Egypt High Speed Rail Project is a new high-speed railway network proposed by the Egyptian National Railways (ENR) that will connect the cities of Ain Sokhna, Alexandria, Luxor and Aswan. The network includes three lines that will be implemented on a Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) model.
Line 1 of the Egypt High Speed Rail links Ain Sokhna on the Red Sea coast and the New Alamein City on the Mediterranean coast. It will start from Ain Sokhna passing through the New Administrative Capital (NAC) and 6th of October City to New Alamein City. The line branches at Nubareya and extends to Alexandria through Borg El Arab city.
The route for Line 1 will have 15 stations which include Ain Sokhna, New Administrative Capital, Wagh Quibli, 6th of October I, 6th of October II, Rod El Farag, Wadi El Natroun, Borg El Arab, Bahig, Al Hammam, El Omayed, New Alamein City, Borg El Arab Stadium, El Amreya and Alexandria.

Recent Developments
Initial plan: construction to be done in three phases (Ain Sokhna – NAC, NAC – 6th of October, and 6th of October – New Alamein City).
Revised plan: construction to be done at once as a whole. To speed up the project, civil and construction works will be subcontracted to at least five Egyptian companies, including Arab Contractors, Orascom Construction and Concord for Engineering & Contracting.
Milestones
Consortium of China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC), China Railway 14th Bureau Group, China Railway 20 Bureau Group Corp, Samcrete Engineers and Contractors S.A.E, and Arab Organization for Industrialization won the bid to construct a HSR from Ain Sokhna to New Alamein City.
Under the $9bn contract, the consortium will finance, design, construct and operate the line in a combined EPC and financing (EPC+F) model.
