Background
The Eswatini Rail Link project (ERL), formerly known as Swaziland Rail Link (SRL) involves the construction of a 150-km railway line from Lothair (South Africa) to Sidvokodvo (Eswatini). As part of the project, two existing lines will also be revamped, the first from Ermelo to Lothair in South Africa and the other from Sidvokodvo in Eswatini to Richards Bay in South Africa.
The new line will be 50 km long in South Africa and 100 km in Eswatini.
The project has been packaged as Public-Private Partnership (PPP) and the process of finding suitable partners is underway.
